Privacy
Leave a Light is made and run by one person. It asks for no account, and keeps as little as it can. Last updated 6 November 2026.
What everyone can see
- The name and the intention you write on a paid light, here and on that light's own page.
- The country you visit from, as in "a light from Brazil", taken from your connection. Never anything finer.
- While you are here, your small figure, where it walks, and the gestures and fixed kind words you choose, under a two-word name such as "Quiet Wind".
The name on a free light is shown only to you. To everyone else it is simply a light.
Sending a light, or an invitation, to someone
If you send your light, or an invitation to come here, to someone, we keep their first name, yours if you give it, and the few words you write, so their page can show them. Only someone with that page's link can see it; it is never listed or shown anywhere else. We send nothing ourselves: you choose how to send it. Write to us to have one removed.
Your path, only if you start it
If you choose to keep your path (in Settings), we keep a list of the browsers you open it on, and note the days you came, the places you went, how long you sat and each full mala. Your page gathers these with the lights, incense and hour bells from those browsers. There is no account and no email: only someone with your path's private link can see it. You can stop it at any time on its page, and its notes and list of browsers are deleted then.
What stays in your browser
A random code that tells this browser apart (it is not your name or your phone number), your sound settings, the day's small counts, and the private keys of your own lights.
What we keep
- Each light: its name and intention, when it was lit and how long it burns, the country, and the random code of the browser that lit it. We keep it after it has burned out, so its page still works.
- Hour bell dedications, in the same way.
- Reports of a name, and daily counts of bells, bows and practices, with no one's name attached.
- To stop anyone from flooding the place (lighting thousands of free lights, or hiding others' names with fake reports), a scrambled code made from your IP address, never the address itself: with each day's count of free lights, invitations and the like (kept for two days), and with each report you make (kept for up to 60 days).
How we count visits
We count how many people come each day, where they came from (an ad, another site, or straight in), the country, whether it was inside Instagram's or Facebook's own browser, and how far they went: whether they went in, opened the window to light something, offered incense, and so on. We count this ourselves, on our own server, and share it with no one. Each browser is counted under a code that changes every day, made with a random value we throw away two days later, so these counts cannot follow anyone from one day to the next, and they never hold a name.
Payments
Payments are handled by Lemon Squeezy, which sells the light on our behalf. It takes your card details and your email address and sends the receipt. We never see your card. We receive the order number and the light you chose.
Meta's cookie, only if you allow it
We run ads on Facebook and Instagram. In the main hall we ask, once, whether we may use Meta's cookie. If you say yes, Meta's pixel loads, and when you buy a light we tell Meta, from our server, that a purchase was made: its price, your email address in a scrambled (hashed) form, your IP address and browser, and Meta's own cookies, so Meta can tell which ad brought you. Meta never receives the name or the intention you wrote. If you say no, none of this happens. You can change your answer at any time in Settings. Meta's own policy is at facebook.com/privacy.
Who else handles your visit
The site runs on Cloudflare, which sees your IP address to deliver the pages. Its fonts come from Google Fonts, which also sees your IP address.
Your choices
You can ask us to show you, correct or delete anything we keep about you, or to take a light's name down, at hello@leavealight.com. We do not sell anything we keep, and we do not use it for anything other than this place.
