Leave a Light

Leave a lantern on the water

It will float here, where everyone can see it.

With what intention?
How long should it burn?

In memory of someone you love

Prototype. No payment is taken. Each paid light gets its own page you can share, and a card to keep.

Leave a Light was made by one person. It is not a temple: no rite is performed and no one is paid to pray. Your light burns here, where everyone can see it. Who made this

Send it to someone

Let someone who should know see the light you lit. They get a page of their own with the light and your words.

Only the one you send it to sees your words. We send nothing ourselves: you choose how to send it.

Keep this path on this device?

This is someone's private path. If you keep it here, everything you light on this device also shows on that path's page, for whoever has its link. Only do this if the path is yours.

Dedicate the hour bell

At the top of every hour a bell rings for everyone here at once. Give one hour to someone you hold dear: when it rings, everyone here sees whom it rings for.

With what intention?
Which hour? Your time. One name for each hour.

The bell will ring for someone you love

Prototype. No payment is taken. It comes with a card to keep and a link to share.

Where to go

Rooms

Every room is the same monastery and chapel. A room holds up to 50 people at once, so you can choose one to be with someone you know.

Your name here

Quiet Wind

Others see this name and your country, nothing more. A new name shows to others from your next visit.

How to visit
  • Tap the ground to walk there. On a computer, the arrow keys or W A S D work too.
  • Drag to look around. Scroll or pinch to come closer or step back.
  • Tap a person to greet them. If they bow back, you share a light.
  • Tap a cushion or a bench to sit. Tap anywhere to rise.
  • Tap a bell to ring it, the incense table to offer incense, the pond to feed the koi.
  • Tap a candle or a lantern to see whom it is for, and to send it a little light.
  • Every hour a shared bell rings for all beings, for everyone here at once.
If you are struggling

This is a quiet place, not a substitute for a person. If you are in pain or thinking of ending your life, please talk to someone now. It is free and confidential.

About this place

Leave a Light is a quiet place online, open to everyone. It is an independent project, not a temple, and no one here is paid to pray. Everything you see is drawn in your browser, and most of what you hear is played there too. The 3D world is built with three.js. Who made this, and why · Privacy
